Mirehouse - Historic Home & Gardens

Our venue is the Garden Hall set in the grounds of Mirehouse near Keswick. The demonstration room is light and airy, very relaxed and comfortable and opens onto a sheltered Victorian verandah.

Mirehouse has a spectacular setting between Skiddaw Mountain and Bassenthwaite Lake and is still a living family home, which has been sold only once in 1688.

The house and this valley has has strong links with poets Tennyson, Wordsworth and Southey and has been a source of inspiration to artists since Constable, Girtin and Turner visited over 200 years ago.

On Sunday and Wednesday afternoons between Spring and Autumn the house is open to the public for a small admission charge. There are facilities for disabled access and toilets.
The gardens are extensive and include a walled garden, terraced lawns, an ancient wildflower meadow and varied woodland gardens.
A walk leads through the park to the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake, home to the English Ospreys and you will find the ancient church of St Bega beside the lake.
